Biofeedback literally means information from the body. Using very sensitive
instrumentation, we can monitor aspects of human physiology including muscle
tension levels, temperature of the peripheral vascular system, and the
electrodermal response.
East-West Health Centers' biofeedback team will teach self-help skills which can
be used to regulate those aspects of your physiology. The skills include general
relaxation techniques such as abdominal breathing, refocusing, muscle tension
awareness, and relaxation. Stress management skills would also be included in
therapy.
East-West Health Centers' biofeedback therapists have a strong background in
psychology and counseling. As a result, he or she can provide the kind of coping
strategies that will help you gain an increased sense of control in daily activities
and especially during difficult situations.
Biofeedback can be effective in either an individual or a group setting. The
skills are generally easily mastered in a relatively short period of time. With
practice, biofeedback skills can be used on a daily basis to quickly manage
physical reactions to stress, thereby decreasing the negative effects of such
reactions.
